Everyone has a dream. Some dream of soaring through the skies, while others long to explore the depths of the sea. For me, the dream was always about vintage and antique cars. Ever since I could remember, I saved every dollar from birthdays, communion, and odd jobs, all in pursuit of owning a piece of automotive history.

nikis 1st carOn my 14th birthday, I stumbled across an ad on Craigslist from a man on Long Island selling his vintage car collection. The moment we pulled into his driveway, my heart raced. There were 1960s fire trucks, police cars, and a gleaming 1950 Dodge Wayfarer in mint condition. My eyes locked on the Dodge. It was everything I’d ever imagined—a masterpiece of mid-century design and raw automotive power. The owner must have seen the spark in my eyes because he worked with me on the price to make it mine. That day, the Dodge became my first baby, and it ignited a lifelong passion for classic cars.

Fast forward to two years ago, and I found my next treasure: a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville, cherry red and full of potential. I drove it home with excitement, rolled up my sleeves, and got to work. Over the next year and with the help of several car mechanics and enthusiasts, I disassembled the engine, meticulously restoring each part to its former glory. When I finally turned the key, the Bonneville roared to life, running like a dream. Since then, it’s won or placed in multiple car shows, a testament to the countless hours I poured into it.

“I’ve always loved car shows like the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George and the Carlisle Events in Pennsylvania. There’s something magical about seeing a field full of beautifully restored classics and hearing stories from people who’ve poured their hearts into these machines. It’s not just about the cars; it’s about the community and the lessons we learn from one another,” I always say.

I love both cars. They are pieces of history that I have lovingly restored and proudly display. I plan to add to my collection. For me, the road ahead is always about chasing the next dream—and the next set of wheels to bring it to life.
