Nothing’s Free Not Even the Poison Helpline
In New York State, millions of households, including elders on fixed incomes, disabled persons, folks on Social Security or minimal incomes, share a truth: a pet is family. A dog or cat is companionship, stability, comfort, and a service to those in need. Think I am exaggerating about millions. Stats show in NYS 49.7% of New York families own at least one pet which puts it at roughly 8 million households with NYC households alone owning more than 600,000 dogs and 500,000 cats.
And yet, when poison threatens that pet, the “help” available can come with a price tag.
