Greetings from
New York
by Ben Coleman
They say that New York was recognized for its resources. But the real resource isn’t land or water, the true resource is the character and patriotism of New Yorkers.
New Yorkers have been the prime example of how people can come together in a disaster… how they keep the darkness at bay with every act of kindness.
Think back to images of New Yorkers after 9-11. That day stands as a shining example of Americans coming together.
On that day we were all New Yorkers going above and beyond to help search, rescue, and rebuild, or to simply offer a bowl of soup, hot coffee, or a meal to those in need just because.
911 wasn’t the first event that shook the New York. We’ve seen our fair share of tragic events including financial meltdowns, fires, and hurricanes.
Disasters like Great Fire fire of 1835 swept through Lower Manhattan, destroying hundreds of buildings and causing significant economic loss and 2012’s Superstorm Sandy will either bring you together or break you. But New Yorkers, they have always come together and pulled through, bigger, stronger, better.
So we might be painted as callous, uncaring, unfriendly, mean-spirited, apathetic, people who just plain, don’t care… But when the chips are down we know how to pull together.
Why? Just ask any one of us, upstate or not, what we think and we’ll supply you with an abundance of opinion. (We’re good at that speaking our mind thing.)
There will always be hardships, but the need for acts of strength are key to keeping calm and clear heads. And regardless if you recognize it or not New Yorkers exemplify that way of thinking. There is nothing fake about us.
That is the stereo-type that should be cultivated.
Big Apple or rural countryside, small and big towns and cities… New Yorkers would NOT trade this state for anywhere else in the world. We love New York…the State, the City, the whole place.. it is in our blood and part of our DNA.
It’s a good place.
It’s a good place to move to, raise kids, celebrate family, to build something, and be part of something better than ourselves.
And of all the richness and wealth of New York City, and New York State, of all their treasures there’s one thing the Empire State has no shortage of……Real People that are always ready!
